Time to Wake Up

Jake called Taye and told him to call his lawyer and tell Lalo that Imani was taken to Alta Bates Hospital.

“Bruh, bond me out my nigga and call our lawyer”

“You know I got you,” Taye said and hung up. He called Lalo and told her what was up. She was hysterical to find out that Imani was in the hospital. She was trying to contact G, but he wasn’t picking up. Lalo arrived at the hospital, but she was told to wait. She had her Jackie-O glasses on and had tears in her eyes.

“What happened?” She asked.

“Niggas tried to kill her,” Taye said walking up. Lalo got up and gave him a hug.

“Have you heard from G?”

Taye shook his head. He didn’t get the chance to talk to Jake since he left that night.

“Naw, I ain’t get to talk to him. I’ve been tryna call, but he ain’t picking up.”

“So, what did they say?”

“They told me to wait and the doctor would right be with me.”

“Hi, are you Mrs. Valentine’s family?”

“Yes, we are I’m her sister Lalo and this is her brother in law Taye,” Lalo said taking off her glasses and showing her bloodshot eyes from crying. He shook their hands.

“Well, it looks as though Mrs. Valentine had a rough night. Her body is badly bruised and it seemed as though her attacker delivered critical blows to her skull. She is stable now and we are just waiting for her to wake up.”

“So, is she in like a coma?” She asked grabbing Taye’s hand.

“No, she is fine. She is just resting.”

“Oh, thank God.” Lalo squeezed Taye’s hand and then he held her.

“The EMT’s who brought Mrs. Valentine in said that her husband was carrying her. They think her husband was her attacker. Do you guys know anything about that?”

“He would never do that. He loves her too much.”

He shook his head and told them that the nurse would let them know when she could have visitors. Lalo sat there and began to cry again.

“Look, it’s ok,” Taye tried to console her, but she ran off. He got up and went after her. She rushed into the lady’s restroom and he followed anyway.

“I just...was supposed to take care of her...Taye,” she said looking up. His heart melted as he looked into her beautiful, teary eyes.

“You did. She ain’t dead,” he said walking over to her.

“Yeah, but I wish shit would have turned out better you know.”

“Yeah, I feel you. Jake didn’t mean for this shit to happen.” She got up and hugged him. He was hugging her and rubbing her back as she cried silently. It had been so long since she was held and it felt so good that she wasn’t letting go. He turned her face so that she was looking at him.

“Stop crying.”

They stared in each other’s eyes for what seemed like forever. She felt a feeling that she hasn’t felt in a while. Butterflies.

She kissed him and he slightly pushed her back.

“What are you doing?”

“I don’t know.
